History of SACOG.net
By Ruben Gusman

With the Internet becoming more and more mainstream as a tool for people to connect, matchmaking and singles sites have exploded in popularity and use. A medium that was once thought of as suspect at best is now fast becoming one of the most common ways for singles to meet.

For Church of God singles this has been no exception.  With most churches scattered and greatly reduced in size, trying to find other singles to fellowship with has been no easy task.  In the mid to late 90's a few singles sites for Church of God members started to pop up.  Most have come and gone and have had trouble gaining a strong foothold in generating a large number of participants.

We did find one site that had over time become very popular and had established a successful format to attract new members. Yacog.org, Young Adults of the Church of God, has grown to over 1,000 young people registered and has a active participation.

"trying to find other singles to fellowship with has been no easy task..."

We know that many singles are simply looking for other like-minded singles to interact with and that some would be turned off by a site that is set up strictly as a matchmaking site. Yacog.org's format, while providing members the opportunity to post photos and profiles makes no assumptions to that end. Its format is very user friendly and stresses friendship and fellowship rather than being a dating or matchmaking site.

In an attempt to capitalize on the success of yacog.org's format we contacted the owners of yacog.org in early 2004 to discuss the possibility of helping us set up a similar site. The big difference would be that the new site would be exclusively for singles (yacog.org is open to married people and singles ages 17-39). This new site would be set up for singles who are 30 years and older. We wanted to have a place for older singles to continue to enjoy the similar yacog.org format and not feel left out once turning 40.

After exchanging emails and phone conversations in August of 2004, a proposed partnership was informally agreed upon that would bring about a new site called sacog.net - Single Adults of the Church of God.  The site would be set up initially as an almost carbon copy of the yacog.org site with a few changes in graphics, text, and membership requirements.

As you will see, the new sacog.net site has some new features unique to itself. The forum page will be non-Yahoo site that will be more private and more visually attractive. Members will also have access to a colorful movie reviews page and be able to post their own creative movie reviews. In addition, we are working on a chat room and ability for members to see who is online and instant message them. These are all features that will be available to you. Your suggestions and input are always encouraged. The site has been created to serve you.

Nearly one year after the initial plan , we’re pleased to release sacog.net to serve you, the single adults. It’s meant to serve the singles and will continue to look to fulfill the needs that aren’t met elsewhere. We hope that this new site will be a powerful tool to unite Church of God singles from around the world in a postive environment of friendship, fellowship, and fun.
